Argent Wallet was founded in 2017 by Itamar Lesuisse, Gerald Goldstein, and Sali Christeson.
The team has raised over $52 million in funding by some of the best investors including Index Ventures, Creandum, Paradigm, Jump and many others. The company behind the Argent Wallet is registered and headquartered in London, UK and the team has grown to over 60 employees.
Argent Wallet is a non-custodial mobile wallet that focuses on the Ethereum network and offers features such as easy access to dApps, recovery without seed phrases, trusted contacts, and multisig. Argent wallet is further loved and trusted by leading figures in the Ethereum ecosystem such as Vitalik, Stani and Wouter of Maker among many others.
Ardent Wallet aims to combine a beautiful design together with a solid security to ensure a user-friendly and safe storing environment. Their goal is for their users to easily buy, earn, stake and trade on Ethereum Layer 2s with low fees & bulletproof security.
In terms of supported platforms, the Argent Wallet is available on mobile for Android and IOS where it has over 200,000 downloads and rating above 4 stars. The Argent Wallet is well renowned as evidenced by the stellar 4.6 star ratings that it has received across both it's mobile and browser wallets. The app is well designed and easy to use and include unique features such as multisig security that is not found on most wallets.
This feature is however only available to users who are storing at least $50,000 worth of digital assets in their wallet. The argent wallet is however a very niche specific wallet tailored to Ethereum Layer 2 blockchains with no support for any other blockchains or cryptocurrencies. Users who want a wallet with multi-chain support won't find it here.
Argent Wallet Features
The Argent Wallet is full open source, developer friendly and of course non-custodial for users to privately use Web 3 dApps. Users can easily and safely buy, trade, earn and stake on Ethereum Layer 2 low fees and seamless access to all dApps.
Users can easily connect to popular DeFi Apps like Yearn, Avee, Lido and many others on the Ethereum blockchain. NFTs are also available for buying, selling and displaying in the app as are seamless tokens swaps.
For users that don't have any coins or tokens and wish to buy with card or bank transfer, that is also possible in the wallet via third-party providers. The argent wallet supports 1000s of cryptocurrencies based on the Ethereum blockchain and support Layer-2s such as zkSync and Starknet.
Argent Wallet introduces a security framework centered around the concept of "Guardians." These Guardians are either individuals, devices, or services chosen by the user to enhance the wallet's protection.
Guardians never possess access to the actual cryptocurrencies held within the wallet. Their roles are in assisting in locking the wallet, endorsing a wallet's recovery, or approving transactions with unfamiliar addresses.
Argent also employs "Trusted Lists" which are urated lists of Dapps that are pre-approved, thus bypassing the need for Guardian consent for transactions. By default, every Argent wallet has the "Argent List" activated.
This list encompasses certain Dapps and features natively integrated into Argent, like in-app exchanges or investment avenues.
If users face scenarios like potential theft or loss, Argent simplifies the recovery process, eliminating the traditional reliance on recovery phrases and passwords. Instead, users can call upon their Guardians, requiring a majority of them to green-light the recovery process.
When it comes to independent audits, the smart contracts of Argent Wallet have been audited by multiple experts from Trail of Bits, Solidified and G0 Group. Argent Wallet also has a $50,000 dollar bug bounty for any users who can identify any vulnerability.
